Chanel Perfumes

Coco Chanel (Gabrielle) was born in 1893 in Auvergne, France. Between the years 1905 and 1908 she had a short career as a singer in a cafe and in concerts, and he toke the surname of Coco. In 1910, helped by her friends finding customers, she opened a millinery shop in Paris; she was rapidly known especially for her simple hats that became a real fashion.

From 1912 to 1920 Coco Chanel managed to stand out as one of the premier fashion designers in Paris. She was well known for her fashion themes including simple dresses and suits, replacing the corset with casual or simple elegance. She also made costume jewelry, women’s trousers, perfume and textiles. After gaining a good reputation she expanded to couture. Her style was a new air for the too crowded dresses of the ladies from Paris. Chanel dressed in mannish clothes also and loved the 'relaxed' style.

The so famous perfume Chanel No. 5 was launched in 1922 and still is in fashion, remaining a profitable product for the company.Wertheimers control the perfume company today, as they did from 1924 when Pierre Wertheimer became her partner in this industry.

She made her comeback immediately after the Second World War and took her place on the haute couture. She invented pea jackets and bell bottom pants for women beside her so famous nowadays Chanel suit. She worked until 1971 when she died.

She will also be known for designing stage and film costumes for plays like Cocteaus Antigone (1923) and Oedipus Rex (1937) and movies as Renoirs La Regle de Jeu. In 1969 a Broadway musical was made wearing her name Coco and telling her life to the public. Her role was interpreted by Katharine Hepburn.
