Escada Perfumes
Escada comes from Portuguese meaning "staircase". How took this fashion company this name? Well, it's a long story. It all began with two people, a man and a woman that loved traveling abroad and... gambling. One of them was Wolfgang Ley, a young and ambitious entrepreneur with a free spirit. In 1976 he went skiing in St. Moritz where he met a superb top model, Margaretha, and felt in love with this gorgeous Swedish woman. They got married and Margaretha learned about the fashion world and then modeled Ley's new collections.
One day they traveled to Portugal and they assisted to a horse race. They decided there to place a bet with all their winnings until that day on one horse named "ESCADA". So, they gamble all their savings and they won. With that money they passed from simple couture to high fashion.
As the company was growing, Margaretha became in charge of the creative part and Wolfgang took care of finances, sales, marketing and production. Quickly, the company became a major success and was listed on the stock exchange in 1986.
Escada's evolution is not surprising knowing that it's attributes were quality, color, elegance and fit.
In 1956, at the age of 56, Margaretha Ley died and the company declined, going to some rough times after her death. After some time, Escada overcome the crisis and was again successful. It began to be a constant in top fashion world and sold luxurious goods again.
