Givenchy Perfumes
Hubert de Givenchy was born in 1927 in Beauvais, France. From his childhood, he showed a great interest in fashion .When he was only 10 years old he saw the Pavilion of Elegance organized at Paris World's Fair.There there were 30 models from the most famous couture houses in France. From that day he knew that he will be a fashion designer.
When the allied forces won over the German occupation, Hubert de Givenchy moved to Paris and started studying with Jacques Fath.After that, he moved to Robert Piguet and then he become the assistant of Lucien Lelong's just after Christian Dior left him.At the end of that year Elsa Schiaparelli asked him to take care of her boutique situated in Place Vendôme. Givenchy stayed there until 1951.
In February 2nd 1952, Hubert de Givenchy's dream came true as he opened his own Maison de Couture at No8, rue Alfred de Vigny, on the Monceau Plain.His success appeared from his first collection.Bettina Graziani was the press agent and the brand icon ( as she was a model too).
Givenchy met Audrey Hepburn around the year 1953. They became good friend for a long period and he saw in her his personal ideal of feminity.Audrey Hepburn will remain the brand's international ambassador by promoting Givenchy in her films ( for example Breakfast At Tiffany's, and Sabrina or Funny Face) and she will promote Givenchy image of refined elegance all around the world.
He also began a collaboration with Cristobal Balenciaga and we can observe his spirit also in Givenchy collections simple style but unique, combining minimalist and structured clothing.
In 1973 Givenchy brand became diversified introducing a line of menswear. In this period Givenchy also went international.
Givenchy died in 1995 letting his designer place in his company to John Galliano as the designer of this famous company. John Galliano was already three times elected by the British Fashion Council as "Designer of the Year" by that time. After him, Alexander McQueen followed in October 1997.
In march 2001 Julien Macdonald was named the Artistic Director for Women.Her job is to manage womenswear, haute-couture and women's accessories.
Now, Mr. Macdonald came to Givenchy after having it's own company in 1997. He only has 28 years and before all this he was head of knitwear design at Chanel Couture and he completed a Masters at the Royal college of Art.
