Issey Miyake was born in 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan. He started design art at Tama Art University in Tokyo. Later on he attended also Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne for his passion, fashion design.
In 1970, Miyake opened his own design studio in Tokyo. In his own studio he had the opportunity to experiment with all the different fabrics, designs and techniques. He started developing natural fabrics and original designs and he got into designing costumes.
Miyake design sensibility evolved on two bases - change and movement. Another characteristic is the particular display of the cloths making them appear geometric and static. In anything you see at Miyake there is a touch of art.The appearance of the clothes makes you think that they only gain great mobility and fantastic volume in the moment you put them on, becoming living sculptures and defining your body like a rare piece of art.
